TAILS FROM THE TUBE
TAILS FROM THE TUBE
This is an interesting introduction to the history of surfing, from the opening tubes to the California hot dogs of the 50s and 60s, to the shortboard revolution that broke out in 1967 and ended in 1975. Old fans will see photos that they have seen once, so fans of Mickey Dora and Phil Edwards must see it. Next, the North Shore of Hawaii is attractive with its mellow sunsets and Laniakea. Between rides, the empty tubes match the sound and invite the viewer into a fantastical world. As with surf action, it features an ocean and country lifestyle, or a surfer meets hippie. Comedy scenes are a staple of surf films, but this short comedy starring Gerry Lopez is hilarious. The era when surfers were at their wildest is still as exciting as ever! The artwork is by Rick Griffin, who established psychedelic art, and the sound is surf music of the time, from the Beach Boys to Corky Carroll.
