The Steve Lis Designs project started in the fall of 2024.
The Fishboard, which was born as a kneeboard in the early 1970s, was adapted into a standing Fishboard for surfing, and the father of it all was Steve Lis.
Since then, the Fishboard has continued to be supported by surfers around the world and has a history of 50 years. However, the Fishboards he shapes are extremely rare because there are so few of them, and they have become the dream boards that Fishboard enthusiasts all over the world dream of riding at least once in their surfing careers.
Now 74 years old, Steve Lis is semi-retired and only shapes a few pieces a year.
Meanwhile, Eric "Bird" Huffman, owner of Bird's Surf Shed, a long-established surf shop in San Diego, produced and began selling machine-shaped Lis Fish.
Last summer, Steve Lis personally hand-shaped the Lis Fish, which was then scanned and machine-shaped. The finishing touches were handled by legendary San Diego shaper Roy Sanchez.
The lamination is done by Shoreline Glassing, which boasts some of the highest quality in San Diego and is co-owned by Josh Hall.
I have been involved with many Lis Fish in the past, including officially selling hand-shaped Steve Lis Fish, and this time I checked the fine details of the Steve Lis Designs, and confirmed that the finished product is completely indistinguishable from hand-shaped Lis Fish.
The overall volume and the speed generated by the single concave will allow you to fully experience the greatness of a fish board.
All of the boards we have received this time are fitted with marine plywood fins by Larry Gephart, another San Diego legend.
This is truly a dream project.
