In the late 1960s, amidst the rise of counter-culture symbolized by hippies and flower power, Grateful Dead became a symbol of the movement, along with Jefferson Airplane, in San Francisco, which was the heart of it all.
Formed in Palo Alto, California in 1965, and disbanded in 1995. Their music was known for its roots-oriented approach, characterized by a "loose" feel.
